What's it like?
As a summer intern in a Ketchum office, you will spend 8-10 jam-packed weeks working full time in the middle of the action. As a spring or fall intern, you will spend up to 20 hours per week working in a Ketchum office. Ketchum interns attend in-house classes, serve as active members of account teams, and act as influential players in their group's internship project.
Experience the full spectrum of the public relations profession in the city of your choice. For more information, visit the Ketchum Opportunities page.
Why Ketchum? Why PR?
It's no coincidence that PRWeek named Ketchum 2002 Agency of the Year. Ketchum is a seamless global firm with top-notch leadership, a celebrated culture, and the ability to always remain on the cutting edge of the industry. With five global practice areas -- Brand Marketing, Corporate Communications, Healthcare, Food & Nutrition, and Technology -- and numerous specialty areas, Ketchum holds firm to its position as a true industry leader.
While you'll form relationships with other interns by attending Ketchum College classes, external field trips and special events, you'll find it easy to adjust in your particular practice area or group. Our award-winning culture will keep your spirits high and creative juices flowing -- whether you're working with your team, playing in our softball league, or attending a special presentation.
Public relations, though always challenging and dynamic, has never been more exciting. You'll work directly on client accounts and feel the energy and satisfaction that makes every day at Ketchum rewarding -- and keeps our colleagues coming back for more.
How do I apply?
We pride ourselves in attracting the best and brightest upcoming talent. If you're a student with a strong interest in the public relations industry and are looking for an internship opportunity in the summer, spring, or fall, Ketchum may be the right place for you.
Each office has specific criteria that needs to be met in order to be considered. Please visit the Ketchum Opportunities page for current listings in each office. (You will receive an acknowledgment upon successful submission of your resume. Because we cannot contact every applicant individually, only those who are being considered will be contacted by one of our internship coordinators.)
How long does an internship at Ketchum last?
The length of an internship varies from office to office but on average our summer interns are with us for 8-10 weeks. Offices will do their best to accommodate students with special time restrictions or schedules. Please outline your time frame on the application and cover letter. If you want to apply for an informal year-round internship, please submit resumes to that office directly.
Will I receive academic credits or a paid internship?
Ketchum will work with students to arrange academic credit where appropriate and/or offer a paid internship or work stipend when possible. Wages vary by office.
What type of writing samples should I include with my resume and cover letter?
Strong writing skills as well as editing skills are essential to the PR profession and Ketchum would appreciate the opportunity to preview your prose before conducting an interview. Writing samples are defined as the following:
- Creative work or written pamphlets, brochures or fliers
- Bylined articles or short stories
- Published pieces for newspapers, newsletters or Web sites
- University class work, press releases or news stories
(Please do not include samples more than five pages long.)
What are the internship application deadlines?
The deadline for internship applications varies and is determined by the office to which you are applying. Please review the Ketchum Opportunities page for specific details.
What is the interview process?
The interview process will vary by office. Once contacted, you will be advised of the local program particulars. All applicants should apply online. We do our best to get back to all students in a timely fashion. You will be contacted by phone or e-mail only if your application is being considered.
Can I apply to more than one office of Ketchum?
You can apply to as many offices as you would like. You must, however, apply online separately to each office. Please indicate in your cover letter to which offices you have applied.
How many interns does Ketchum hire?
The number of interns Ketchum hires is determined by the need within each office and will vary from year to year.
What if I want to apply to an international Ketchum office?
We have an internship program at our U.S. offices and our London office. For information about our London internship opportunities, visit the London internship program page.
What about housing?
It is the responsibility of the intern to secure housing accommodations prior to his or her start date. However, each office can provide you with basic information on local housing options. Making arrangements will be left to the intern's discretion.
Can international students apply and obtain a visa through Ketchum?
We welcome international students to apply to our program but, unfortunately, we do not have a visa assistance program in place at this time.
What makes Ketchum different from other internship programs?
Our program will allow you to experience the PR profession firsthand. For 8-10 weeks, you will be a part of a Ketchum account team -- serving your clients and agency, billing time, and working hard. Our program is filled with many networking and training opportunities, too.
What are the people and culture like at Ketchum?
Here are some direct quotes from our former interns on the Ketchum work environment:
"Ketchum has a very laid-back atmosphere, yet everyone has so much ambition. Offices are filled with many upbeat, friendly and hard-working people."
"It is refreshing to work in such a fun, energetic corporate culture. I was impressed by all the young talent at Ketchum."
"I could tell right away that Ketchum's enthusiasm for and dedication to their internship program would create and experience I would enjoy being a part of."
What kind of work will I be doing?
Interns work daily with clients and account team members. An internship with Ketchum may consist of compiling media lists, writing press releases, attending client activities, scheduling events, participating in brainstorm sessions, conducting Internet research, pitching reporters, and supporting the efforts of team leaders on many activities and projects.
